As we sit here tired and dreary
The day so bleak it makes me weary
Thinking thoughts of you to while away the time.
Could happiness be just a passing theory
Is it right for us to remain leery
Wondering if it was just a passing thought sublime.
Another poets raven seems to pass here
Bring thoughts of other times and fear
That perhaps there is little time left for you and me!
To have that demon's ugly head rear
Why he comes is so far from clear
Perhaps it's just to peek or perhaps he wants to see.
I care not for that which comes by night
Hiding from all but those with special sight
Sneaking about like some misbegotten soulless waif.
Trying to challenge the God and his might
Bringing mortals as I such undue fright
He strives to live upon the fears and our darkest grief!
Be gone! You harbinger of terrible sadness
I have a choice and you are not of bitterness
Though many have seen fit to name you as such a fiend!
I know you for the creature of gladness
The saviour of all the world in happiness
The body you may have, but the spirit and soul another's gleaned.
